Its no secret that I’m a huge fan of vintage clothes, so when I heard A Current Affair was coming to the bay area I was psyched and instantly texted my girlfriends to buy tickets. If you’re not familiar with this fashion popup sensation, its an event that brings the top vintage retailers and private dealers in the country together for an amazing day of shopping, inspiration, and treasure hunting. Prices range from reasonable $35 to woah woah woah $3000+, but for one-of-a-kind Chanel, East West, and Gucci pieces what can you expect? This sale has also attracted teams from free people, Trina Turk and even Sophia Amoruso who called it the “best vintage on the planet”. So yeah, A Current Affair is the real deal, and if you are obsessed with vintage like I am you must check them out. Also take a peek at their instagram – they got real nice pictures on there.
Initially a bit overwhelmed, I found myself going through racks and rack of vibrant prints; feminine florals, multicolored stripes. My eyes were on the prize; I was searching for sweet 60’s psychedelic pieces. Most vendors had a decent selection of accessories, tables full of jewelry, shoes, and purses. I love large statement pieces; mixing vintage earrings & necklaces to my everyday outfits is one way I try to create unique and fashionable looks.
Talking to some of the vendors, it was great rediscovering local shops as well as checking out visiting ones from New York and LA. You could quickly tell everyone was crazy passionate about vintage and sharing their goods with us lucky Bay Area locals. The camaraderie and rich conversations made it clear that this wasn’t just a sale, but also a lovely community of people who appreciate goods from yesteryear and preserving the styles of the past. Some of my favorite vendors from the show were Gossamer, Recess, Love Street Vintage SF, and Covetedge. I’m totally that person who collects well-designed business cards at these type of events.
The Hanged Man Co created the beautiful display that welcomed all the guests. Out of all the sample & popup fashion events I’ve been too, this is hands down one of the best. Fingers crossed they come back to the Bay Area to grace us with their incredible selection again <3
