As of late I’ve been trying to be as healthy as I can be with my diet due to my impending doom (just kidding for my wedding). I’m trying on wedding dresses in a few months and I have a bit of tightening up to do (blog posts to come on my fitness journey!)
Even with my discipline – trying to eat healthy, weekly workout classes, etc. I still do remember to treat myself, which brings me to Homeroom.
Delicious, delectable, a cheese lover’s heaven – this restaurant specializes in grown-up Mac & Cheese. Options on their menu include Jalapeño Popper Mac, Siraracha Mac, and the Smokey Bacon Mac. Not to mention the hundreds of custom combos you can create mixing and matching their add-ones.
I’ve had two friends rave about the food and cool/laid back atmosphere, and after seeing yet another insta-post I decided to head over on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Located in a really adorable area of Oakland, Homeroom is typically crowded by a decent amount of people trying to get their “cheese” on. Don’t be alarmed, the line moves pretty quick and the wait is definitely worth it. If you need your macaroni fix fast, there is a second “take-away” location, Homeroom To-Go where you can pick up the same tasty treats as well as restaurant swag.
Going through the menu, it was pretty tough to make a decision, everything sounded delish. Holding ourselves back we decided on two orders of Mac & Cheese without any sides. Mike ordered the Buffalo Chicken and I got the Gilroy Garlic. Both came topped with crispy breadcrumbs that complimented the rich cheesy center. It was a pretty nice day so I cooled off with one of their Arnold Palmers, the perfect blend of limeade and ice tea.
These dishes we too good for words :p I loved my garlic dish, flavor was balanced and the noodles were on point. Not too soft (mushy) and the right amount of firmness. The proportions were pretty generous and I had to stop myself from stuffing my face even after I was full. That flavor… mmmmmm just dynamite. If you’re a fan of comfort food, fancy cheese snob, or just looking for an amazing place to eat in Oakland check Homeroom out! You’ll leave with a full stomach, leftovers (probably), and a new perspective on the potential of that classic mac & cheese dish.
